Commitment is not a Guarantee but a Forecast
Scrum commitment signifies that the team commits to approaching their work as professionals, making their best effort to complete as much of the planned stories within the sprint as possible. This commitment is made with the intention of delivering valuable information and metrics to the Product Owner, allowing them to effectively manage the project’s time, budget, and scope.
It’s important to recognize that while the team commits to delivering as much value as they can within the sprint, it doesn’t guarantee that every story will be completed. Unforeseen challenges, changing requirements, and other factors can impact the team’s ability to fulfill the entire commitment.
The Scrum Guide was updated: ‘commit’ or ‘commitment’ became ‘sprint forecast’ to stress that it’s never a guarantee.
